COILS Professional Certificate Program
Classes begin April 5th
This certificate program is designed for professionals in life sciences industries, incumbent workers who want to gain new skills that are in demand, and adults seeking credentialing beyond their degree. This certificate program consists of a required 14 week course combining Quality Management and Regulatory Affairs, and one elective course depending on your selected career path.
REQUIRED COURSE: Offered one night per week 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. for 8 weeks.

Part I: Quality Management Systems
Part II: Regulatory Affairs Management
ELECTIVE COURSES: Choose one elective course that fits your career path. Each elective course is offered one night per week 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. for 6 weeks. Elective courses are scheduled at various times based on demand. Class schedules and registration information for elective courses will be posted by March 14th.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS MANAGEMENT -
Part I: Quality Management Systems for Life Sciences Companies-This course will take the student through the background, current day structure, and regulatory problems associated with Quality Management Systems in the Life Sciences industry. In addition, the course will cover the newest elements of contemporary Quality Management Systems: the Roles of Management, Control of Risk, Control of the Supply Chain, and the tool of Auditing for Continuous Improvement.
Part II: Regulatory Requirements for Life Sciences Products-The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with key regulatory concepts and practical applications so the student can gain a working knowledge of the current requirements placed on medical product development, production, and use in the U.S. and other major markets in the world.
VALUES ON VALIDATION - The class will focus on an overview of validation science history, the regulations (laws) that require this work, examples of validation experiments conducted by the various Life Sciences industries, and validation case studies.
CERTIFIED LEAN SPECIALIST - For professionals whose roles require mid-level expertise of lean tools, the course begins with an introductory session and continues with a hands-on live simulation. The learning culminates with the 5s tools. All sessions are packed with a mix of theory and practice. Candidates will be challenged to apply the theory they have learned in practical exercises drawn from the instructor's experience in implementing Lean and will be exposed to the challenges faced during actual Lean implementations. They will learn about the use of metrics to measure improvements and how these metrics need to tie into the organization's bottom line. Certification requires a passing grade on a final exam.
CUSTOMER SERVICE EFFECTIVENESS - This course will offer the student a valuable understanding of the field of Customer Service. It will provide practical advice on how to handle real life on-the-job situations and give useful insight based on job-tested experience. The student will learn all the vital aspects of Customer Service.
SAFE FOOD HANDLING AND HACCP REGULATIONS - An introductory course in food safety designed to acquaint the student with the breadth and scope of the food industry and the role of science in the preservation, processing, and utilization of foods.
BECOMING A LEADER IN LIFE SCIENCES- This course will give the student an aerial view of the commercial/business side of developing a product from "Concept to Commercialization" in the Life Sciences industry. This course will speak to the product development process and technology discovery. Students will gain an understanding of the business of bioscience from finance to effective business plan writing and multiple marketing strategies.
PROGRAM FACULTY: All COILS Certificate Program courses will be taught by leading life science professionals within their respective areas of knowledge and expertise.

REFUND POLICY: Students registered for noncredit courses may receive a full refund if our office is notified in writing prior to the first day of class. Course fees will not be refunded starting with the first day of class.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION AND CEU's: A University at Buffalo - Millard Fillmore College Certificate of Completion will be awarded upon successful completion of certificate program requirements. Students will receive 4.8 CEU's (Continuing Education Units).
