Academic Writing Institute (AWC)
Designed to Meet the Needs of Adult Students and Students
Enrolled in Graduate and Professional Studies Programs
The Academic Writing Institute was established in response to graduate students' increasing concerns about the need for courses that meet their specific writing needs: research papers, masters' theses, doctoral dissertations, scholarly publications, academic essays, and ESL challenges.
The institute is committed to helping students at the graduate and professional levels of study develop proficiency in scholarly writing.
We offer three unique courses:

Writing the Academic Essay
Writing the Academic Essay (noncredit)
In this course, participants will learn how to:
-
Overcome writer's block (utilize the writing process: pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing)

Organize an essay (introduction, body, and conclusion)
-
Develop a thesis statement, main ideas, and supporting details
-
Transition smoothly from paragraph to paragraph
-
Structure sentences correctly
-
Use punctuation, mechanics, and word choice appropriately

Writing the Research Paper (thesis, dissertation, & scholarly publication) (noncredit)
In this course, participants will learn how to do the following:

Develop an abstract, an introduction, a literature review, a working hypothesis, a thesis statement, a discussion, and a conclusion

Integrate research

Use academic voice

Classes meet once or twice a week for 2-4 weeks (2.5 hours per class).

New classes are offered once a month.

Both daytime and evening classes are available.

Courses are affordable - $175.00 per course.

Payment of program fees and refund policies
Course fees are listed with each course found in noncredit course schedule. Students registered for noncredit courses may receive a full refund if our office is notified in writing prior to the first day of class. Noncredit course fees will not be refunded starting with the first day of class.
