THE NICHOLAS & SARAH HELEN KISH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM

HISTORY:

The Nicholas and Sarah Helen Kish Foundation Scholarship is named in memory of Dr. Nicholas Kish and his wife, Sarah Helen Kish. Dr. Kish served as Assistant Dean of Millard Fillmore College (MFC) from the mid 1950s until 1975. After he retired from his administrative position, Dr. Kish continued to teach in the School of Management as an adjunct faculty member where he taught accounting courses to MFC students. Due to failing health, Dr. Kish was forced to resign from his teaching position in 1980 and passed away in early 1981. Dr. Kish had a long association with UB and MFC and was a strong supporter of MFC students and continuing education.

PURPOSE:

The Nicholas and Sarah Helen Kish Scholarships are awarded to encourage and support non-traditional (25 years and older) students seeking an undergraduate degree from the University at Buffalo. From its inception, the Kish Scholarships were only awarded to matriculating MFC students. Although MFC's academic degree programs were transferred to UB's academic departments in 2001, the Kish Scholarships will continue to be made available to those students who were registered in MFC at that time and continue to be enrolled as matriculated students at UB.

ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be: 1) non-traditional, adult undergraduate students enrolled at UB; 2) currently matriculated and registered; 3) have completed at least 15 semester hours of course work at UB at the undergraduate level, and 4) were registered as a MFC student in 2001. Applicants must be in academic "good standing" at the time of application. (Note: A student in good standing has a minimum UB grade of 2.0; is not on academic probation; and has a minimum GPA of 2.0 for the last two semesters.)

SELECTION:

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and performance. The cumulative quality point average in courses taken at UB is the primary criterion for selection. A brief statement (no more than one page) giving your reasons why you should be awarded a Kish Scholarship is required. Provide a description of your academic goals, including the degree sought, and any other information that you believe may be pertinent.

AWARD:

The scholarship award will be 0.

Eligible students interested in applying for the Kish Scholarship should complete an application form (Adobe Acrobat Required) and return to:
